Staff Newsletter                                      September 2008

Welcome to the first term of the new year at Playgroup.

This September sees a few changes at Playgroup and Early Years Settings all over the country with the introduction of the New Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This replaces all previous guidance and legislation relating to Early Years Provision. For us at Ben Rhydding Playgroup, this will mean a few changes, not particularly in the way we run our sessions but more in the way we record information (paperwork!) If anyone wants to find out more, speak to Sandra or visit the website www.standards.dscf.gov.uk/eyfs/site/index.htm . We are waiting for copies of EYFS for parents and carers…..watch this space.

In accordance with the EYFS, and because of staffing changes we have revised our key worker system, all children will have a named key worker (KW) who is supported by 2 other named key workers. The primary key worker will be responsible for getting to know your child and family and keeping Records of Achievement up to date, the support key workers can provide some continuity at sessions when the primary key worker isn’t there. Some children may have a new KW if their current sessions do not match well with their old one. We will send everyone details of their key worker separately. If you wish to discuss this, or anything else, please speak to your KW or Sandra.

We are very pleased to have received a letter from Bradford Early Years, Childcare and Play to inform us that we have received a GOLD – (outstanding practice) award in the Inclusion Quality Standard that we were working towards last year.  We will receive a plaque and £300 to spend on inclusive resources. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the collection of evidence and especially to Tricia Fielding who sorted it all out and made it all make sense!

Our theme for this half term is Nursery Rhymes and Traditional Tales, please feel free to bring in favourite stories/books/cd’s etc. (named would be very helpful!). We will start again with the Jolly Phonics letters and sounds starting with s, (w/c 8th Sept) and continuing with a,t,i,p and n. Copies of worksheets for each sound are available in the entrance to take home each week so the whole family can practice together!

The photographer is coming to Playgroup on Wednesday 24th September, please complete and return the form attached if you would like your child or children to be photographed.

As usual at the beginning of a new term, we are able to make a claim for Nursery Education Funding. If your child has a birthday between 1/9/2003 and 31/8/2005 then they are eligible to claim funding, see staff to sign the forms if you wish to claim. If it is the first claim with us then we need to see evidence of your child’s date of birth (passport, birth cert.)

We will be holding our Autumn celebration on Wednesday 22nd October, parents and carers are invited to come and listen to the children perform a selection of seasonal songs and nursery rhymes. The doors will be open at 11.00am and the singing will start at 11.10 am finishing at 11.30.

We keep Record of Achievement files for every child, please ask to look at them and contribute to them, either by writing a note in the book about something your child has done or developed an interest in, bringing a photo or drawing from home to stick in etc. The files come home with your child when they leave Playgroup.

Sandra, Tricia, Peggy, Lana, Tracey, Alison, Helen, Ruth and Chris.

If anyone has moved house, changed their phone number, email or mobile or would like to receive newsletters, rotas etc via email, then please complete the form below and return it to Playgroup or send an email to mail@brplaygroup.com

The photographer will then re-locate to Playgroup where he or she will photograph children with younger siblings and any individual portraits. Everyone is welcome to come and have their picture taken.
